Hi Everyone,
We hope your summer is going well, and also hope all of our friends and family back home survived the Minnesota Gnat-Plague of 2019. 😊

We are getting settled in Texas: working through our summer classes, applying for jobs, and memorizing driving directions to the local grocery stores. So far everything has gone pretty smoothly. We settled into a pleasant RV park in Arlington. It has a pool and a playground, so the kid’s criteria have been met. Rett and I like that it has a lot of older trees, it’s in a convenient location, and it doesn’t have an extra charge for children. (message me if you would like our new address!)
On the way down to Texas we enjoyed a bit of family time, and did a few touristy things. We had a lot of fun and made some great memories. I’m so glad we decided to make the necessity of moving into a little mini-vacation!

Since our last blog post, we finished (and passed) Spring Semester 2019! We really enjoyed our classes, particularly “Christian Life & Witness” (even though it required a lot of extra work). We also finished our “Mentored Spiritual Formation” project, which is a little bitter sweet because we enjoyed meeting and talking with our mentors on a regular basis. (Thank you so much for sacrificing your time to meet with us!)
Our house in Minnesota is currently for sale, and we would so appreciate if you would join us in praying for it to sell soon. A big thank you to everyone who helped us pack, and helped watch the kids, as we were getting the house ready to put on the market! Also, a big thanks to friends that recently removed a dead bush from our yard. We have been so blessed to be part of a community so willing to come alongside each other. We pray that God will continue to bless you and strengthen your community.

Looking forward, we are taking summer classes, getting the kids enrolled for school in the fall, and studying up on Japanese for our whole family to start Japanese lessons in the fall as well. Returning to Japan is also on our minds a lot, though at the same time we are more and more convinced of our need and desire to spend a bit more time at seminary as there is so much more that would be helpful and good to learn while we are here. Please join us in praying that our desires for education and for returning to Japan would align with what God desires for us.
Book Recommendations:
For anyone interested in reading, here are some books I have enjoyed reading lately.(If you read any of the books let me know what you got out of them! I would love to hear your opinions. )
Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas (we read an excerpt for a class)

If you are looking for a book on marriage that doesn’t promise happiness or quick fixes, this is it! Instead the author wants us to shift our perspective, and see marriage as an opportunity to grow in Christian maturity.
The Deeper Journey by M. Robert Mulholland Jr.

A book for thinking about your true identity in Christ. Rett really likes this book, as it has helped him think deeply about what it means for his relationship with Christ to be the defining aspect of who he is.
